A SUPPORT hub has been set up at Aberfan & Merthyr Vale Community Centre to help people following the floods caused by Storm Bert.
Council staff are based at the cafe offering advice and support including reporting issues to the emergency response team, supporting vulnerable people in the community and supporting people with Welsh Government emergency funding applications.
The council announced that Greenfield Special School would be closed on Monday, November 25.
The council also asked that residents avoid Cardiff Road in Quakers Yard which, in its latest update, was still closed.
In terms of other roads, the Glais bridge in Pontsticill is clear, Brecon Road is passable with care, Pantglas Aberfan main road is clear, Merthyr Vale Grey Place is clear, Plymouth Street is clear, Bridge Street in Troedyrhiw is clear and Abercanaid is clear.
The council is offering free bulky item collections for those affected by flooding and people should call 01685 725000 to arrange theirs.
The council has a limited supply of sandbags and these will be prioritised for critical areas so those not at immediate risk of flooding should buy sandbags from their local builder’s merchants.
People who have received sandbags to help with the flooding during the weekend can either keep them or they can be collected by the council.
