LIBRARY hours in Merthyr Tydfil could be changed under proposals being considered by the council.
Library opening hours across Merthyr Tydfil are being reviewed so that library services remain supportive to local communities and as efficient as possible, the council says.
The council is proposing changes to opening hours to help maximise library usage and has launched a consultation.
The council said it wants to make sure library opening hours are relevant to the local community and to ensure it can deliver services more efficiently and effectively.
Here are some of the potential changes it is consulting on:
Aberfan Library
- Aberfan Library currently opens between 10am and 1pm and from 2pm to 5pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
- One example of a change the council has put forward is to open it later in the evenings.
- It would see Monday opening hours of 10am to 2pm and then moving the closing time on Wednesday and Friday back to 6pm.
- The second example involves opening it on Saturday.
- It would see the same opening hours on Monday and Friday as now while opening from 2pm to 5pm on Wednesday and opening from 10am to 1pm on Saturday.
Dowlais Library
- For Dowlais Library the current opening hours are 9.30am to 1pm and 2pm to 6pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
- The first example of potential changes would see it open for an extra day in the week.
- It would open from 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm on Tuesday, closing at 5pm on Wednesday and closing at 4pm on Friday.
- The other example would include it opening on Saturday.
- It would involve it closing at 5pm on Wednesday, 4pm on Friday and opening from 10am to 1pm on Saturday.
Merthyr Tydfil Library
- Merthyr Tydfil Library currently opens from 9am to 6pm from Monday to Friday and from 9am to 1pm on Saturday.
- The first example of proposed changes would see it open later on Saturdays.
- It would close at 5pm on Monday, Thursday, and Friday and open until 4pm on Saturday.
- In the second example it would open later on Saturdays and late one night in the week.
- It would open until 7pm on Monday, 4pm on Thursday, and 2pm on Saturday.
Treharris Library
- Treharris Library currently opens from 9.30am to 1pm and 2pm to 6pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
- The first example of a change involves opening it for an extra day in the week.
- It would open from 10am to 1pm an 2pm to 4pm on Tuesday with it closing at 5pm on Wednesday and 4pm on Friday.
- The second example would see it open on Saturdays.
- It would close at 5pm on Wednesday and 4pm on Friday and open from 10am to 1pm on Saturday.
