A “NUMBER of offers” have been received for a former school building after it was put up for sale by a council.
Monmouthshire County Council declared the former Mounton House Special School in Pwllmeyric near Chepstow surplus to requirements in December four years after it closed.
It was built in the 1950s and closed in August 2020, as part of the council’s additional learning needs review.
At the council’s March meeting Shirenewton councillor Louise Brown asked for an update on the site, part of which was retained and is used as a southern base for the council’s Pupil Referral Unit for students who aren’t in mainstream schools.
Cllr Ben Callard, the Labour cabinet member for finance, said the council had received a number of offers after advertising the site for sale and those are being considered.

Conservative Cllr Brown asked if proceeds from the sale could be allocated to schools in the Shirenewton and Chepstow area.
She said: “The Dell School has had a demountable classroom for 20 or 25 years and maintenance is needed at Chepstow school.”
Cllr Callard said if the council does take a capital receipt, from any potential sale, it would go into its central fund but said: “I take your point investment is required in local schools.”
Two former staff houses at the site were refurbished for use as the southern base for the pupil referral unit which moved from its previous base in Chepstow town centre on March 5, after the half term holiday.
