Neath man arrested for exposure at Starbucks

A NEATH man, Kieron Oakley, has been arrested following allegations of indecent exposure at a Starbucks in Llansamlet. The incident occurred on Tuesday (Jul 16) inside the café, where Oakley allegedly lifted his shorts and exposed himself to staff while placing an order. Witnesses claim the act was recorded on video.

Shortly after, Oakley, 22, of Gnoll Park Road, Neath, was seen outside the café continuing to expose himself in full view of the public. Prosecutors allege that his actions were intended to cause alarm or distress.

His Honour Judge Geraint Walters highlighted Oakley’s concerning behaviour, noting that this was not an isolated incident. “The young man has previously been of good character,” Judge Walters said, “but he now appears to be engaging in repeated acts of exposure. On another occasion, he was reportedly seen outside a garden centre in Neath, exposing himself where children were present.”

The court heard that Oakley has no prior convictions or warnings. However, concerns were raised about his mental health, with the defendant revealing that he is taking sertraline, an antidepressant. His visibly worried parents have called for a comprehensive mental health assessment.

Oakley was initially held at Parc Prison, marking his first time in custody. After being granted bail, he was released to stable accommodation under strict conditions, including an electronic curfew and a ban on visiting any Starbucks locations.

Judge Walters underscored the importance of addressing Oakley’s mental health needs. “It is vital we determine why Mr Oakley is engaging in this behaviour,” he said. “A mental health evaluation is urgently needed.”

Oakley is scheduled to return to court on Monday (Jan 13) for a full hearing.
