DANIEL TAYLOR, 33, of Heol Cae Gurwen, Gwaun Cae Gurwen, appeared at Swansea Crown Court to face three charges: assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH), battery, and harassment by putting a woman in fear of violence. The alleged offences are said to have occurred in Ammanford between Tuesday (Oct 1) and Saturday (Nov 2) 2024.
Defence barrister Mr Scapens argued that the case’s progression relies heavily on an analysis of data from Taylor’s phone. “The crown will want to review the downloads before making its position,” he stated, emphasizing Taylor’s full cooperation in the investigation.
Mr Scapens further alleged that Taylor had been detained for nearly 12 hours without proper justification, despite voluntarily offering his phone for analysis. Speaking to the court, Mr Scapens said:
“The defendant invited the police and prosecution to check the phones, which are with him. The defendant was arrested on the morning of last Friday’s hearing. His phone was not internet-enabled, and the police brought him to the cells. He was detained from six in the morning to five in the afternoon with no local authority.”
His Honour Judge P H Thomas KC acknowledged the importance of the phone data and noted that the download should be completed by Tuesday (Dec 31). He expressed hope that both parties would have sufficient time to review the evidence before the next hearing.
The case was adjourned to Friday (Jan 10) 2025 for further proceedings.
