NEATH Port Talbot Council’s Wellbeing and Behaviour Service has been awarded the prestigious Bronze Award for Outstanding Impact on Education at the 2024 Mental Health & Wellbeing Wales Awards. The award was presented in recognition of the team’s outstanding initiatives dedicated to promoting mental wellbeing within educational settings across the county.

The service was recognised for its innovative and impactful approaches to improving mental health in schools, particularly through the rollout of Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training and Trauma Informed Schools (TIS) practices. These initiatives have played a crucial role in creating a supportive environment where pupils feel encouraged to openly discuss their mental health and breaking down stigma.

The award’s Outstanding Impact on Education category celebrates educators or education settings that make a significant positive impact on mental wellbeing by creating environments that support open conversations about mental health. The Council’s Wellbeing and Behaviour Service was shortlisted from more than 200 nominations for this award, which recognises the service’s commitment to putting pupil wellbeing first.

Commenting on the achievement, Councillor Nia Jenkins, Neath Port Talbot Council’s Cabinet Member for Education & Early Years, said: “We are incredibly proud of the Wellbeing and Behaviour Service for receiving this well-deserved recognition.

“This award highlights the strong partnership between our inclusion services and schools, who have worked tirelessly to support the wellbeing of children and young people across Neath Port Talbot.

“By helping to create open conversations around mental health, we are breaking down barriers, reducing stigma, and ensuring our pupils feel safe, supported, and heard.”

The awards ceremony took place earlier this month in Cardiff and was dedicated to recognising individuals and organisations across Wales who go above and beyond to prioritise the wellbeing of others.
