FUNDING has been given out by Neath Port Talbot Council this month towards building a new play area in the village of Clyne.

The cash which was available as part of the authority’s community council minor projects grants scheme was awarded to Clyne and Melincourt Community Council at a meeting held in December, 2024.

It will see a sum of £14,000 given out by the county borough council towards a refurbishment project worth a total of £45,000 at the Bryn Golwg Play Area in Clyne.

The report says the project will look to provide new equipment at the site as well as creating an outdoor hub which offers “the most generous arrangements for public enjoyment, regardless of age.”

It read: “The grant would be used to better the provision currently on offer at Bryn Golwg Play Area in the village of Clyne. The play area has not received major investment in many years, and is in desperate need of modernisation.

“The equipment is dated, underused and no longer suits the needs of the local community. Play equipment to be installed includes a junior multi-play unit, a roundabout, see-saw, sensory play panels and a multi-sports goal end.”

It added: “This proposal will keep children entertained in a safe, secure play environment in the centre of Clyne. The facility will be well used and enjoyed by both current and future generations.”

It also highlighted that the community council had committed to the running costs of the facility for the foreseeable future, such as insurance, maintenance and the inspecting of the park.

Officers at a special cabinet meeting held on December 11, said they were pleased to recommend that the funding be awarded with members later approving the move unanimously.
