THREE NEW machines will be hard at work on Neath Port Talbot’s and flood risk infrastructure projects as well as clearing debris from ditches and culverts.
Keep an eye out for our new additions in action right across the county borough. These new machines will ensure the council has a machine for every type of job and response.
The YANMAR Mini Excavator: This ‘little beast’ offers big performance in a small package, perfect for smaller drainage jobs on the highway as well as clearing small ditches and narrow channels. With advanced capabilities and reduced fuel consumption, it’s efficient and environmentally friendly!

The JCB 3CX Backhoe: This is the workhorse of the group, capable of almost every job it encounters, this machine will assist in construction, excavation, re-profiling, ditching, lifting and back-filling.
The YANMAR B110W Wheeled Excavator: Boasting incredible lifting capacity, mobility, and reach, this beauty is highway-ready and perfect for quick responses to emergency flood events and blockages. It has been brought in to tackle the largest of jobs and enable crews to quickly and efficiently clear blockage on critical culverts before, during and after large storm events. Able to operate in hard-to-reach structures, this machine ensures there is no job too big for the council’s team.

Cllr Scott Jones, Neath Port Talbot Council’s Cabinet Member for Streetscene, said: “This investment in our drainage fleet will give our staff extra resources to carry out routine maintenance as well as offering greater capacity and resilience to deal with blocked drains and any flooding issues.”
The arrival of the new machines comes amid a period of consultation on Neath Port Talbot Council’s draft Local Flood Risk Management Strategy and Plan (LFRMSP).
The council has a legal responsibility to develop this LFRMSP or “local strategy” for managing flood risk. As the Lead Local Flood Authority the council must develop, maintain, apply and monitor a strategy for local flood risk management.
It is now time for the council to renew and re-publish its LFRMSP after first receiving the results of consultation. Using these links you can read the draft strategy and plan and background documents.
Your feedback is especially important if you are impacted by or have an interest in flood risk management. The council would like to hear from residents, council employees, businesses, risk management partners and other stakeholders and organisations.
