NEATH PORT TALBOT Council has agreed to set up a modernisation group to review and update its decision-making processes.
The approval to start the group was given at a full council meeting on Wednesday, January 8, and a group of elected members will now come together with the aim of modernising their constitutional operations.
The group’s work will focus on making sure the council is more efficient and transparent moving forward, and will include a review of the constitution and decision-making structures.
It will also look for opportunities to modernise these processes and will propose recommendations to improve accountability, transparency, and responsiveness in the council.
The report given to members read: “In recent years, the complexity and volume of decisions required by the council have increased significantly.
“This has highlighted the need for a review of our current decision-making processes to identify areas for improvement and modernisation.
“It would be proposed to establish a modernisation group, comprising of elected members to review the council’s constitution, processes, and decision-making frameworks.
“The group will identify areas for improvement and develop recommendations to modernise and streamline constitutional processes, ensuring it is effective, transparent, and fit for purpose in a changing local government environment.”
Officers noted the group would now begin meeting in February, adding while the group will not have any decision-making powers, it will report its findings and recommendations to full council as and when required.
