A POPULAR Neath Port Talbot visitor centre has re-opened to members of the public after its closure earlier this year.
The Afan Forest Park Visitor Centre based in the picturesque Afan Valley near the villages of Glyncorrwg and Abercregan has now re-opened under new leaseholders.
The move will see a new “upmarket café, restaurant, and takeaway” at the Afan Valley attraction which is also set to boast a campsite complete with electric hook-ups for camper vans.
The site is being opened by up and coming chef Lloyd Ryland alongside multi-business entrepreneur Ryan Thomas with the centre’s new restaurant known as Base at Afan Forest Park.
The Afan Forest Park is known across Wales among walkers and mountain bike enthusiasts who visit the area as well as those who come for the independently-run South Wales Miners Museum.
It is also set in an area close to where the planned £250m Wildfox adventure resort is expected to be built and completed by 2027.
Mr Thomas, who is now a joint leaseholder of the centre, said: “There is huge potential here and we have ambitious plans for the café/ restaurant including a mouthwatering food offer and extending opening hours.”
He added: “We look forward to growing the business here in Afan Forest Park and to welcoming the many visitors attracted by the stunning woodlands, mountain biking, and cycling trails and walks this area offers.”
Councillor Cen Phillips added: “We are delighted to have found new leaseholders for the visitor centre. This is great news for local residents and visitors to the area.”
