WORKS to install a new CCTV system in Pontardawe’s town centre have been completed along with upgrades to an existing camera network in Briton Ferry West.
The project to update the camera systems was led by Neath Port Talbot Council in recent months and was carried out using £71,246 worth of funding from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.
The new system in Pontardawe along with the extended CCTV coverage in Briton Ferry will be operated through the council’s recently modernised CCTV control room, where cameras are said to be monitored “24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
A council spokesperson said: “These upgrades aim to enhance the safety and security of residents and visitors significantly. The new cameras are integrated into the council’s modernised CCTV control room, which operates 24/7 and collaborates closely with emergency services including police, fire, and ambulance teams.”
They added that key benefits of the work would include a deterrence to vandalism and anti-social behaviour, support for police with access to high-quality footage for evidence, and a boost in overall town centre safety.

Cllr Alun Llewelyn, of Cwmllynfell and Ystalyfera, said: “The recent completion of CCTV installations in Pontardawe and upgrades in Briton Ferry marks a significant step forward in community safety, deterring criminal activity, addressing anti-social behaviour and making our communities safer for everyone.”
