New Mayor elected in Neath Port Talbot

Mayor Cllr Chris Williams

A NEW mayor and deputy mayor have been elected for Neath Port Talbot.

The council elects a new mayor and deputy mayor to preside over council proceedings each year, with Cllr Chris Williams of Bryncoch South, now stepping in to the role for 2023/2024.

He will be joined by deputy mayor Cllr Matthew Crowley of Sandfields East. Speaking after the approval was made at a full council meeting on March 15, mayor Cllr Williams said it was a great honour for him to represent the borough of Neath Port Talbot.

He said: “It’s a real honour and a privilege for me to take up this position as mayor of Neath Port Talbot, and I look forward to carrying out the role to the best of my ability.

“I’ve lived in Neath Port Talbot all my life and am a very community focused person. I am excited to meet with members of the public now and to build a relationship with them over the next year.”

Deputy mayor Cllr Crowley added: “I was delighted to be selected by full council and I will take up the position as deputy mayor on behalf of the people of Sandfields East. Hopefully I will undertake the role with the same dignity and honour as all of my predecessors before me.”
