A ONE-MONTH baby tragically passed away at his home in Rassau, Ebbw Vale. The infant, Ilias Lucifer Onuris Callaghan, born in April 2024, was found unresponsive on June 8, prompting an emergency call to the residence. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, Ilias could not be revived, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Senior Coroner Caroline Saunders has since opened an inquest into Ilias’ death, which commenced on August 18, 2024. While a post-mortem examination has been carried out, the cause of death remains undetermined at this time. Authorities have confirmed that there are no suspicious circumstances or third-party involvement in the tragic incident.
The inquest has been adjourned to allow for further investigations, including a review of the circumstances surrounding Ilias’ birth and his medical history following his discharge from the hospital. Information from the emergency services will also play a crucial role in the ongoing inquiry. The next hearing is scheduled for March 11, 2025.
Authorities have assured that the investigation will be thorough, with the aim of providing answers to the grieving family. The community of Ebbw Vale remains hopeful that the inquest will bring clarity to the tragic event, offering some solace to those affected.
