Port Talbot woman accused of attack has trial delayed due to illness

A 49-YEAR-OLD woman from Port Talbot, Denise Raymond-Jones, has had her trial postponed after failing to attend Swansea Crown Court.

Raymond-Jones, of Moorland Road, faces charges of wounding with intent and an alternative charge of unlawful wounding, both of which she denies.

The charges relate to an alleged incident on Thursday, December 21, 2022, during which Raymond-Jones is accused of attacking a man with a wine glass.

The complainant reportedly sustained injuries when the glass shattered after being put into his neck. The defendant has claimed she acted in self-defence, stating she “feared for her safety.”

The trial was due to begin on Monday, November 18, but was delayed after the court was informed of Raymond-Jones’s health issues. Defence counsel, Mr Singh, told His Honour Judge Huw Rees that the defendant had recently been in a psychiatric hospital in London before being transferred to South Wales.

Mr Singh further revealed that Raymond-Jones is undergoing investigations for a suspected form of cancer and is dealing with other significant medical problems. “Your Honour, she is being investigated for a form of cancer. A catheter was fitted a week before court, but it started to leak. The long-term prognosis has not been clarified,” he explained.

The trial has now been rescheduled to begin on Monday, July 21, next year.
