ONE OF THE country’s leading foodservice providers, Bidfood Wales, has added 150 products to its range dedicated to championing locally sourced food and drink.
According to research commissioned by the Welsh Government on the Value of Welshness, 90% of consumers think it’s important that a venue has a good range of dishes with Welsh ingredients, with a quarter of them being discouraged from visiting a venue with no Welsh offering.
Bidfood Wales’ new ‘Wonderfully Welsh’ range celebrates the best in local food and drink, as well as the producers and growers behind them, all of which are from SMEs across the country. 150 products spanning dairy, meat, store cupboard essentials and more, will allow Bidfood Wales customers to support the local economy with the dishes on their menus.
To mark the launch of its regional offering, the wholesaler hosted an event at the historic Hensol Castle, where over 20 suppliers showcased their products to existing Bidfood Wales customers and heard from industry body, Food & Drink Wales. Customers also got to meet former rugby player and Bidfood Wales Ambassador, Scott Quinnell and took a tour of Hensol Castle’s 400-year-old distillery.
Lucy Quinnell, Category Development Manager for Bidfood Wales said: “I am immensely proud to launch our Wonderfully Welsh range! Wales boasts such a rich culinary tradition that takes inspiration from its beautiful landscapes and offers a unique and hearty experience for those who enjoy traditional flavours and comforting dishes.
“It is so important to not only highlight our regional food and drink, but the SME producers behind them. That’s why we have worked closely with our new suppliers, like Wilfred’s Pies and carried out research by attending multiple trade shows like the Royal Welsh Show to select the authentic products that define Wales.
“This is just the beginning, and I’m excited to expand this offering, whilst working with the Welsh Government so that consumers can experience our culinary heritage.”
John McAughtrie, Sales Director at Wilfred’s Pies added: “We are over the moon to be working with Bidfood Wales. Their passion for supporting local suppliers aligns perfectly with our values, and together we can continue to offer the best of Welsh food.
“Wilfred’s Pies has always been dedicated to creating the finest quality pies, using locally sourced ingredients to celebrate the rich culinary heritage of Wales. By teaming up with Bidfood Wales, our pies will now be available to even more pubs, restaurants, cafes and catering businesses.”
