A TEMPORARY banking hub has opened its doors in Mountain Ash town hall.

Cash Access UK, the organisation set up to protect nationwide access to cash, has opened a temporary home for the banking hub which offers a counter service operated by the Post Office where customers of all major banks can carry out regular cash transactions from Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm.

It also offers a community banker service where customers can talk to their own bank about more complicated issues on the day their bank is in the hub.

On Mondays HSBC is there, on Tuesdays Lloyds will soon be there, on Wednesdays Halifax will soon be there, on Thursdays Santander is there, and on Fridays Barclays is there.

While the hub in Mountain Ash is up and running Cash Access UK confirmed it is currently working to secure a long-term home for the banking hub which will offer the same services.

There are now nine banking hubs open in Wales with two more hubs  planned for Flint and Monmouth.

Gareth Oakley, CEO at Cash Access UK, said: “I’m happy to announce that the new banking hub in Mountain Ash is now open in the town hall, giving local residents renewed access to cash and in-person banking services.

“The hub is available for everyday banking transactions every day of the week and for more specific or complex inquiries a community banker will be on-site to assist on designated days.”

A banking hub is a shared banking space on the high street and Cash Access UK is owned and funded by the UK’s biggest banks which have come together to provide shared services available to all their customers.
