Three children arrested after fire ravages two unoccupied new builds 

FOLLOWING a fire, which tore through two new build properties in Tonypandy on Sunday, October 23, South Wales Police have confirmed three children have been arrested on suspicion of arson.

Three boys, all aged 11, have since been released on bail pending further investigations.

On Sunday, shortly before 7pm, South Wales Fire and Rescue service were alerted to a fire on Anderson Terrace, Tonypandy.

Crews were drafted in from three stations to tackle the blaze which left two unoccupied new build properties gutted.

The crews confirmed that specialist equipment was used to tackle the blaze including hose reel jets, a mains jet and a 7m ladder.

A spokesperson for South Wales Fire and Rescue said: “At approximately 6:47pm on Sunday, October 23, 2022, we received reports of a fire on Anderson Terrace, Tonypandy.

“Crews from Tonypandy, Treorchy and Pontypridd stations attended the scene. Firefighters extinguished the fire using specialist equipment, including hose reel Jets, a main jet and a 7m ladder. A stop message was received at approximately 8:13pm”.

The three youngsters were arrested shortly after the incident.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: “South Wales Police was called just after 7pm last night (Sunday 23 October), by South Wales Fire and Rescue Service following reports of two unoccupied new build properties being alight on Gilmour Street, Tonypandy. Three boys, all aged 11, were arrested on suspicion of arson and are on police bail while the investigation continues.

“Anyone who may have information on the fire, that could assist officers in their investigation, should contact South Wales Police quoting occurrence number 2200359716.”
