South Wales Fire and Rescue Service publishes its Annual Improvement Plan

SOUTH Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS) is responsible for providing an efficient and effective fire and rescue service to 10 unitary authorities in South Wales, with a total population of over 1.5 million people. The Service’s key duties include keeping the people, communities, businesses and environments of South Wales safe from fires and other hazards, in line with its mission: “To make south Wales safer, by reducing risk.”

Every year,  SWFRS publishes its Annual Improvement Plan (AIP). This year’s plan looks back on the preceding period of 2023-24 and reviews delivery against the plans and performance indicators that were set out for that period, as well as outlining the proposed objectivities and activities for the period 2025-2026.

The plan is structured around eight strategic themes, which help the Service to achieve its mission – which are: keeping you safe, responding to your emergency, working with partners, involving and communicating, protecting and enhancing our environment, using technology well, valuing our people, and continuing to work effectively.

To do this effectively and efficiently, the needs and views of the Service’s staff, stakeholders, and the general population of South Wales must be considered against any risks and challenges. The publication of the AIP therefore launches a 12-week period of public consultation and invites the public to voice their views on the proposed activities for the year ahead.

2024 was a year of transformation for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, with the launch of its ‘Step Forward Transformation Programme’ – a portfolio of nine projects that will take the Service forward and ensure it is fit for future generations – encompassing actions that will assist, support and develop its staff in recognition of the need for wide-reaching and meaningful change.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service’s Annual Improvement Plan is now available to view and respond to here – with both a full plan and the quick read version published on its website in English and Welsh. The accompanying survey can be found here.

The Service encourages everyone who is able to respond to have their say on its plans and proposed objectives for the year ahead, either through answering the survey, or emailing its dedicated inbox at [email protected]
