THE SOUTH Wales Seniors Classic has raised an incredible £10,000 for the Wales Air Ambulance during their latest event, surpassing £120,000 in total.
The group has been raising money for the all-Wales charity since 2004 and incredibly to-date has raised over £120,000 for the lifesaving Charity.
Since its inception in late 2003, the South Wales Seniors Classic has provided the quality competition for around 764 seniors across South Wales.
After a qualifying round, the players are split into two competitions, cup and bowl and all the proceeds from the competition are donated to the Wales Air Ambulance.
Members were delighted to recently present Wales Air Ambulance volunteer and past patient Alan Owen, with the £10,000 cheque at the Grove Golf Club in Porthcawl.
The Wales Air Ambulance Charity needs to raise £11.2 million each year to keep its helicopters in the air and rapid response vehicles on the road. Donations and fundraising events are key to the service’s survival.
The Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury.
It is delivered via a unique Third Sector and Public Sector partnership. The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the Charity’s vehicles.
As a pan-Wales service, the dedicated air ambulance crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency lifesaving care.
The Charity’s Regional Fundraising Manager, Abi Pearce, said: “We are absolutely delighted and honoured to receive another fantastic donation from the South Wales Senior Classics.
“They’ve raised an incredible £120,000 for our lifesaving Charity, which will enable us to continue to be there for the people of Wales when they need us most.
“The continued commitment from the clubs and dedication to raising funds for the Wales Air Ambulance is phenomenal.
“We would also like to thank all the clubs who have taken part, and a special thank you goes to all the sponsors who have donated towards the prizes.
“We wouldn’t receive these much-needed donations if it wasn’t for the golfers and supporters, thank you to them all. We appreciate your continued support of the Wales Air Ambulance.”
