Teenager stabbed near Nash College in Newport

A TEENAGER was stabbed near Coleg Gwent’s Lliswerry campus in Newport this afternoon, sparking a police investigation and heavy emergency services response in the area.

The stabbing, reported to have occurred around 3:00pm, led to a partial lockdown of the college, according to concerned parents. Local sources say an 18-year-old male suffered multiple stab wounds.

Alan Morris, Newport City Councillor for Lliswerry, condemned the attack, saying, “This is appalling. Violence has no place here in Lliswerry or anywhere else. I wish the police every success in bringing the assailant to justice. Lliswerry’s streets are typically safe, and it’s crucial they stay that way. I urge anyone with information to come forward and support the investigation.”

Gwent Police were alerted to the assault near Nash Road shortly after 1:30pm on Thursday (Nov 7). Upon arrival, officers arrested a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of section 18 assault—wounding with intent. A police spokesperson reported that the 18-year-old victim was taken to hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening or life-altering.

Following this incident and subsequent reports of disorder in Newport later that evening, a Section 60 notice was issued, giving police additional stop-and-search powers to maintain public safety. The notice, effective from 7:00pm on Thursday (Nov 7) until 7:00pm on Friday (Nov 8), covers multiple streets, including Dolphin Street, Commercial Road, Duke Street, West Market Street, and Francis Drive.

Chief Superintendent Carl Williams reassured the public, stating: “The Section 60 notice is a precaution to keep Newport’s communities safe. I understand residents may feel uneasy, so please speak with our officers if you have any concerns. We will be taking decisive action against any individuals causing disruption or engaging in unacceptable behaviour.”

Anyone with information about the assault is asked to contact Gwent Police, quoting reference 2400371556.
