Community rallies behind Pontypool’s rugby manager after life changing medical emergency

RESPECTED Team Manager for Pontypool Rugby, Ryan Thomas, is the focus of a GoFundMe campaign organised by his sister-in-law, Amy Lowe, to support his recovery following a life-changing medical emergency. The fundraiser aims to raise £24,000 to provide Ryan with advanced rehabilitation and essential home adaptations after he suffered a cardiac arrest, two heart attacks, and a stroke. So far, the campaign has raised an incredible £17,380, but further support is needed to help Ryan regain his independence and return to his family.

On Thursday (Nov 7), Ryan suffered a devastating cardiac arrest following a suspected heart attack. Doctors worked tirelessly for over an hour to stabilise him, but the trauma didn’t end there. Just days later, Ryan endured a second heart attack, and scans revealed he had also suffered a stroke during the initial ordeal. His prognosis was initially bleak, leaving his family facing weeks of uncertainty, fearing for both his survival and his quality of life.

Through sheer strength and determination, Ryan has defied all odds. While his progress so far has been extraordinary, the stroke has left him with left-sided weakness, requiring intensive rehabilitation and significant home modifications to support his recovery. These resources are essential for Ryan to rebuild his strength and return to the life he shares with his wife, Tors, and their young son, Teddie.

Ryan is not only a respected figure in rugby but also a devoted husband, father, and friend. His courage inspires all who know him, and the community has rallied to support his recovery. However, more help is needed to ensure Ryan receives the best possible care on this challenging journey.

Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference. Your contribution will bring Ryan one step closer to reclaiming his independence and returning home to his loved ones.To donate or learn more about Ryan’s journey, please visit here.
