A FORMER councillor who last week quit her seat on Torfaen Borough Council has also resigned from Pontypool Community Council.

Sue Malson stepped down at the Labour councillor for the Trevethin and Penygarn ward on Torfaen Borough Council.

She has also resigned as the councillor for the Upper New Inn Ward on the community council.

A by-election will be held for the borough council seat when two electors from anywhere within Torfaen submit a written request to chief executive Stephen Vickers who is also the returning officer.

There is no time limit on the requests and if the required number is not received, the seat will remain vacant.

For the community council seat ten electors from within the Upper New Inn ward must submit a written request for a by-election Mr Vickers.

The requests can be submitted together, separately, or a combination of the two but must reach Torfaen Civic Centre by 5pm on December 18.

If there are enough requests Mr Vickers will then have 60 days to set a date for the by-election.

Pontypool Community Council will fill the vacancy by co-option if there aren’t enough requests for a by-election and this will take place “as soon as is practicable” within 14 working days of the December 18 deadline.
