Take on the Brecon Carreg Porthcawl 10K with Team Tŷ Hafan

THIRTEEN staff from Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice are set to take on the Brecon Carreg Porthcawl 10K this July.

(Pictured left to right) Darcy Hutchings, Rebecca Bryant, Laura Grindey, Joanne Jones, Rachel Ritter, Deborah John, Rhodri David, Lucy Kettlety, James Davies-Hale, Jenna Lewis, Helen Hughes, Ann Wright and Kirsty Gibbs (not pictured) will all be pulling on their running shoes to take on the beautiful 10k course.

HR Administrator Rhodri David said: “I’ve never done anything like this before, as in only done one 5km run before signing up.

“I was really inspired/encouraged/forced by my colleague Debbie John. Once Deb saw that I had done the 5km in a relatively comfortable time she said: ‘Oh, you can easily do the 10km’.

“Since then I have been absolutely obsessed with running including using strava to monitor my training and buying every kind of accessory money can buy.

“Unfortunately, my mind thinks I have a body of a 20-year-old rather than an unfit 37-year-old so have picked up some injuries along the way which has been difficult to deal with.

“However, I can easily recognise the positive impact the training has had on both my mental health and cardiovascular health.

“I’m also excited to be raising money for our charity as well as I haven’t fundraised properly in 20 years. I’m currently sitting at just under 9km in my training regime so not long before I can get to 10km and then work on going even faster!”

The Brecon Carreg Porthcawl10K will take place on 6th July and there are still places left to join Rhodri and the rest of Team Tŷ Hafan in running to raise money for children with life-shortening condition in Wales.

James Davies-Hale, Head of Fundraising for Tŷ Hafan, said: “Tŷ Hafan are proud to be lead charity partner at the Brecon Carreg Porthcawl 10k and would like to say a big thank you to all those who register to run for us. You’re amazing!

“The race will take place on closed-roads, taking in a number of landmarks and stunning seaside spots including Rest Bay, Trecco Bay, Coney Bay, the picturesque town centre, Porthcawl’s historic Grand Pavillion and the iconic Porthcawl Lighthouse.

“Registration is just £8 to runners who pledge to raise £150 to support our vital services.

“Join Team Tŷ Hafan to enjoy this fantastic race, while helping ensure that when a child’s life will be short, no family should have to live it on their own.”
