DAFEN’s Simon Holliday scored a century to help his side beat Skewen by 93 runs on Saturday (Aug 14).

Holliday and Matthew Evans opened the batting for Dafen who were asked to bat first when Skewen won the toss.

They shared an excellent opening stand of 113 runs to put their side in a strong position.

David Thomas eventually made the breakthrough for Skewen as he trapped Evans leg before on a score of 38.

Thomas then had Matthew Donoghue caught by Callum Davies to reduce the home side to 124-2.

However, Holliday and Matthew Jones shared another excellent stand of 87 runs for the third wicket.

Holliday had hit 12 fours and four sixes in his excellent knock but he was out on a score of 131 when he was caught by Thomas off the bowling of Luke Martin.

Skewen began to hit back as only two other batsmen were able to reach double figures.

Jones fell for a score of 29 to the bowling of Dean Kriescher before who also trapped Ioan Roberts leg before on a score of 12 and Ian Capon caught by Martin on a score of 10.

Martin ran out Andrew Dyer to bring the innings to a close with the score on 264.

Skewen lost Jordan Jones early in their reply when he was bowled by Andrew Dyer but David Jenkins and Daniel Rees shared 63 runs for the second wicket.

Jenkins was caught by Simon Holliday off the bowling of Chris Hudson on a score of 37 and Rees fell soon after on a score of 26, also to Hudson.

Wickets began to fall at regular intervals after that and next to fall was Dean Kriescher who was trapped leg before on a score of 14.

John Jones scored 23 but was also trapped leg before by Matthew Evans.

Johnny Morris and Matthew Thomas both made scores of 10 but both fell to the bowling of Matthew Jones.

Callum Davies added 11 but he was stumped Daniel Vaughan and David Thomas made another score of 10 before being run out by Matthew Jones.

Holliday then brought the game to a close as he had Luke Martin caught by Andrew Dyer.

It all meant that Skewen were bowled out 171 inside 44 overs.
