Honours even between Cwmgors and Cwmafan

IT was honours even at Parc y Werin on Saturday (Nov 27) where Cwmgors maintained their unbeaten league start in Division 3 West Central (A).

However, nerves were jangling at the end, after visiting Cwmafan nabbed a last-gasp try, only to see the conversion fail to hit the target.

Cwmafan kicked off playing towards Waun School on a bitterly cold afternoon where windy conditions made it difficult for both sides.

The hosts took the lead after 15 minutes with a well-worked try scored by Rob Clive, following some top supporting work beforehand by the Cwm forwards; Andrew Mason added the successful conversion.

However, the visitors soon hit back with a converted try on the half hour, but the Cherries managed to get some good momentum going, and soon earned due reward with a second try before the interval when Joseff Davies went over the whitewash to bag a deserved 12-7 half time lead.

‘Gors restarted, but it was soon the visitors who managed the next score with another well-worked converted try to level matters again. An entertaining ding-dong affair turned again when Mike Jones powered over the try line to regain the home advantage.

But the Cherries failed to put the game to bed, and they were punished late on when they leaked a late try, but fortunately for ‘Gors, the conversion failed, and perhaps a draw was fair enough for both sides in the end.
