Wales finish third in Junior home nations

Wales' Under14s

WALES’ young tennis players came third overall in the Junior Home Nations last weekend following an excellent display.

The Under 14s won their age category to help their country to their third-placed finish.

Sixteen players were selected to represent Wales from across the country and they were looking to follow up on Team Wales’ results from 2018 and 2019.

Team Wales won on those two occasions and they went to the Corby Tennis Centre full of confidence.

One of the players who took part in the event was 14-year-old Felix Bockelmann-Evans who said he was ‘thrilled’ to be selected.

He said: “I was thrilled to be selected to represent Wales in the U14s category for the Junior Home Nations last weekend. I played in 2019 too for the U12s when the Welsh team won the whole event for the second time running.

“The Captains set up a really positive spirit in the Welsh camp right from the start and of course, all the players across the age groups support each other.

“When you’re playing a tennis match you’re on your own out there, so hearing and seeing your teammates and Captain cheering you on gives you a huge boost to want to win. It must have worked because the Welsh U14s beat Ireland 4-2, England 5-1, and Scotland 5-1 to give us the win in our age group.”
