WALES will find out their opponents in the last 16 of Euro 2020 today as Group B comes to a conclusion.
Defeat to Italy on Sunday (Jun 20) saw Wales finish in second place in Group A.
It means they will face the second placed team in Group B with the final two games in that group taking place today (Jun 21), kick-offs at 8pm.
The final set of fixtures in Group B sees Finland take on Belgium while Russia play Denmark.
Belgium top the group with six points and are unlikely to lose it because of their superior goal difference.
Russia currently occupy second place but Finland sit level on points with them and a point against the Belgians could be enough to see them claim second place.
Denmark are bottom of the group but they will need to win big against Russia and hope for a similar result for the Belgians if they are to nick second spot.
A game against Russia will bring back memories of Euro 2016 for Wales fans as Chris Coleman’s team earned a 3-0 win over the Russians in the group stages.
With qualification for the last 16 already secured, Italy made eight changes for Sunday’s game and it was one of those who got the only goal.
Matteo Pessina scored shortly before the break to put the Italians in control and they continued to search for more goals, only to be denied by a combination of Welsh defenders and keeper Danny Ward.
Ethan Ampadu saw red in the second half but Wales defended well for the final half an hour to ensure the score stayed at 1-0.
It meant that Switzerland’s 3-1 win over Turkey in the other group A game did not matter as the Swiss must now hope they have done enough to secure a last 16 place as one of the ‘best third-placed’ teams.
Boss Rob Page has said how proud he is of his team while Gareth Bale has also praised his teammates for the way they played following the sending off against Italy.
Wales will now look to pick themselves for their last 16 game.
The game is scheduled to take place at 5pm on Saturday, June 26 at the Johan Cruijff arena in Amsterdam.
