Wrexham AFC sign goalkeeper Mark Howard

WREXHAM AFC has confirmed the signing of experienced goalkeeper, Mark Howard, who becomes the Club’s second addition of the summer.

Howard, who will reunite with manager Phil Parkinson having previously worked under him at Bolton Wanderers, arrives after being named Carlisle United’s Player of the Season for 2021/22.

The 35-year-old came through the ranks at Arsenal before joining Cardiff City, and later had spells in Scotland with St Mirren and Aberdeen.

He returned to England when signing for Blackpool, before making over 100 appearances for Sheffield United between 2012 and 2016.

There, he was part of the side that reached the FA Cup Semi-Finals in 2013/14 and both the League Cup Semi-Finals and the League One Play Offs in 2014/15.

Howard joined Bolton in 2016, and has also featured for Salford City and Scunthorpe United in recent seasons.

On signing for Wrexham, Howard said: “I’ve been speaking to Phil [Parkinson] for a few days now. I’m thrilled to get it finally done and dusted and I can’t wait to get going.

“I love playing in front of full attendances and a lot of crowd, and that was something that really attracted me to Wrexham. To have this opportunity to play in front of these fans, it will be exciting.

“There’s only one aim for this season now, and that’s to get promoted.”

Parkinson added: “Mark’s an experienced goalkeeper who I worked with at Bolton, and he was Player of the Season at Carlisle last year. He has a lot of league experience and will be a great addition.

“He’s a confident lad and a strong character who will offer strong leadership qualities in the dressing room too.”
