Two-day EV Rally showcases Wales’ support for electric cars

WALES’ largest Rally of electric vehicles will embark on a two-day, 500-mile journey to demonstrate the viability of EVs for business use in fleets.

More than 25 EVs will leave Roald Dahl Plass, Cardiff on 13 November at 9.00am and embark on a moving showcase to raise awareness of what the Welsh public charging network currently looks like, where attention is needed to create a more expansive and accessible network, and to let spectators see exactly what EVs are capable of.

Supported by Welsh Government and Climate Action Wales and timed to coincide with Wales Climate Week, the route takes in state-of-the-art charging hubs and clean energy projects along with some of the most rural roads in Wales.

Over two days the Rally’s 11 teams in 23 top-spec electric vehicles from a range of EV manufacturers will navigate their way to a series of Official Checkpoints (CP) where drivers will stop, ‘Check In’ and then take to social media, to amplify the message.

Ursula Perry, sponsorship and partnerships manager for GREENFLEET Events, organiser of EV Rally Cymru said:”‘This event is important as it will bring together the Welsh Government, Transport for Wales and public and private sector organisations to explore how we can deliver a more sustainable transport system for Wales.

“The route is challenging at times but is the perfect way to show that EVs are reliable and more than capable of going the distance.”

Having made their way through mid-Wales in an anticlockwise direction, taking in Brecon Beacons, Powys and up past Llangollen, the teams of drivers finish day one on the north coast, in Bangor, completing more than 230 all-electric miles.

Day two sees the teams head south through Blaenau Ffestiniog, down to Machynlleth, Aberystwyth, via Cardigan and then across to Neath Port Talbot to the finish line.

Electric vehicle manufacturer BYD is the official vehicle manufacturer of the Rally providing cars for the EV Rally organiser’s team and media crew, taking the EV Rally fleet to 29 vehicles in total.

Assisting the organisers will be Event Logistics Partner, Maxus whose award-winning electric vans will be used to deploy event branding, flags and Checkpoint materials and staff.

Following the teams will be GREENFLEET Events’ ‘Roadside Assistance Partner’, The AA, who will be on-hand to support should any of the teams have any issues.

EV subscription provider Voltric is ‘Charge Card Partner’, supported by Paua, and to assist with ensuring drivers make the best use of their EVs’ batteries, Drivetech is this year’s EV Rally Cymru ‘Driver Training Partner’ offering teams eco-driving tips and driver safety information.
