Army veteran sentenced for drug-driving by Pembrokeshire magistrates

An army veteran has been sentenced for drug-driving

An army veteran who regularly takes cannabis to help him deal with the PTSD he sustained during his time in active service found himself the wrong side of the law this week after being caught driving his Vauxhall Vectra whilst over the legal drug-drive limit.

Pleading guilty to the charge before Haverfordwest magistrates was Eric Rees, 34, o f Church Lane, Haverfordwest.

Rees was stopped by police on the afternoon of September 16 as they carried out a routine check, and a roadside drugs wipe gave a reading of 5.3mcg. The legal limit is 2.

He was represented in court by Mr Michael Kelleher.

“This will have a catastrophic effect on him in terms of looking after his family and he is as anxious as anyone could possibly be not to be disqualified.,” he said. ” But you’re obliged to disqualify and no amount of hardship will prevent that.”

Eric Rees was disqualified from driving for 12 months. He was fined £400 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £160 surcharge.
