SURF’S up for Ashmole & Co’s newest Trainee Accountant, Rhys Baker. Rhys, who grew up on the Gower, works in the accountancy firm’s Ammanford and Pontardulais offices.
Rhys learnt to surf from a young age while he lived in Llanrhidian, on the Gower and still enjoys catching the waves in his spare time now that he lives in Gowerton. He went to Gowerton secondary school and studied Accountancy, Business, Economics and AAT at Gower College in Swansea. Before starting with Ashmole & Co he worked for another accountant firm for three years.
Day to day with Ashmole & Co, Rhys prepares year end accounts, corporation tax returns, VAT returns and Self-assessment tax returns for clients. He admits the most challenging aspect of being a trainee accountant is learning new skills to tackle each job as each job has its own unique aspects to understand.

He has once again passed another of his ACCA exams this week and we’re very proud of the effort he is putting in to become fully qualified. As well as surfing in the summer, in his spare time Rhys enjoys playing six-a-side football, plays the drums and regularly goes to watch live music.
