DANIEL LEWIS, 30, of Heol Llwchwr, Ammanford, appeared at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on 3rd September 2024, where he faced a series of charges, including using threatening behaviour, trespassing on railway property, and outraging public decency. The charges relate to incidents that took place on 17th May 2024 at Pembrey and Burry Port Railway Station.
Lewis pleaded guilty to all charges during the hearing, which was presided over by Magistrates Mrs H Meade, Mr C Jones, and Mr P Casey. The prosecution was led by Sian Vaughan, with Richard Morgan Gomer Williams representing the defence.
The court heard that Lewis had used threatening and abusive language with the intent to cause harassment, alarm, or distress while at the railway station. This offence was prosecuted under Section 4A(1) of the Public Order Act 1986. As a result, Lewis was sentenced to a community order lasting until 2nd September 2025. In addition, he was ordered to abstain from consuming alcohol for 90 days, until 1st December 2024, and to remain at his address between the hours of 5 pm and midnight until 5th September 2024. He is also required to cooperate with officials installing monitoring equipment.
The court also imposed a rehabilitation activity requirement, mandating Lewis to attend up to 15 days of appointments and activities as directed by his supervising officer.
In a separate charge, Lewis admitted to trespassing on railway property at Pembrey and Burry Port Railway Station, contrary to Section 55(1) of the British Transport Commission Act 1949. The court acknowledged his guilty plea but did not impose an additional penalty for this offence.
Lewis also faced a charge of outraging public decency by behaving in an indecent manner at the railway station, an offence under common law. For this, Lewis was further sentenced to the same community order, with his guilty plea taken into account in the sentencing.
In addition to the community order, Lewis was ordered to pay £85 in prosecution costs and a £114 victim surcharge. The fines will be deducted from his benefits under a collection order issued by the court.
This sentencing marks the conclusion of a series of offences committed by Lewis in May 2024, with the court opting for a combination of penalties designed to support rehabilitation alongside punishment.
