Awel Tywi Residential home celebrates 50th anniversary

RESIDENTS, staff and friends of Awel Tywi residential home in Llandeilo recently celebrated the home’s 50th anniversary.

Marking the occasion with afternoon tea and entertainment, the residents sang songs and were also entertained by local singer Alan Thomas and pupils from Ffairfach Primary School who also presented the residents with a handmade card.

The League of Friends Awel Tywi, a group of local people with a connection to the home who regularly visit, organise activities and entertain the residents presented a hand-painted plate to mark the occasion. Made by local artist Kate Glanville, the plate will be displayed in the home for years to come to commemorate the anniversary.

A cake created by a member of staff at Awel Tywi was cut by resident Mary Keir and enjoyed by all.

Cllr Jane Tremlett, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Services said: “I was delighted to attend the celebration of Awel Tywi’s 50th anniversary. Thank you to members of staff at the home for ensuring that the event was so special and to everyone who took part.”

Opened as a residential home in 1974, the former Workhouse contains 38 beds and has 56 members of staff.
