HYWEL DDA University Health Board is delighted to announce a Multicultural Carol Service to celebrate the festive season and to honour the dedication of our staff, patients and emergency services.
The service will take place on Monday, 9th December 2024, at 7:00 PM, in The Chapel, St David’s Park, Carmarthen, SA31 3HB.
Past and present employees, patients, and the wider community are invited to take part in a moment of unity and reflection. Highlights of the evening will include a special performance by the Hospital Notes Choir, formed by Prince Phillip Hospital staff in 2018. There will be special performance of ‘Silent Night’ in British Sign Language (BSL).
Euryl Howells, Senior Chaplain for Hywel Dda University Health Board, shared the inspiration behind the event, saying: “The ambiance of the Chapel on St David’s Park offers a unique and peaceful escape, allowing us to come together and celebrate the season.
“For many, Christmas is a time of celebration but it can also bring challenges, especially for those who struggle with mental health, face personal losses, or feel isolated.
“This is an opportunity to listen, sing, and offer fellowship, reminding everyone they are not alone.”
St David’s Park has long been a cornerstone of Carmarthen, with the site historically created as a mental health hospital. The site holds a nostalgic place in the memories of many in the community, including those who worshiped or were married in the chapel. There is a unique story to the chapel; it was built between 1883 and 1889, with the cost coming from the profits of private patients, and labour was given freely by the staff and patients.
This service is open to all—staff, families, friends, past employees, patients, and members of the wider community. There is ample free parking on-site.
