LLANELLI earned their second win of the Indigo Premiership season on Saturday (Oct 29) as they beat Pontypridd 29-31 in a thrilling encounter at Sardis Road.

Llanelli went ahead early on with a penalty from Josh Phillips and with four minutes on the clock they had the game’s first try. Ben Raivalitia touched down and Phillips added the extras.

Then on 13 minutes it was 17-0 as Dan Davis went over for the try which was then converted by Phillips.

With the score at 17-0 so early on things looked ominous for the home side but they did not give up and got themselves back into the game.

With 36 minutes gone, a driving maul set Ponty up for their first try of the game, scored by Daf Rotie and converted by Dale Stuckey.

On the stroke of half time Ponty scored their second try through Lloyd Rowlands but the missed conversion left the score at 17-12 at half time.

Pontypridd went ahead three minutes into the second half as Tom Harper scored their third try and Joe Scrivens added the extras to make it 19-17 to the home side.

Scrivens then added a penalty and with an hour gone they increased their lead further with a fourth try, scored by Daf Rotie and Scrivens added the extras.

That took the score to 29-17 and although there was still plenty of time left, Llanelli knew they would need at least two scores to take the win.

They got the first of those scores in the 77th minute as Nathan Hart touched down and Phillips again added the extras, taking his side to within five points.

With the clock nearing 80 minutes, Llanelli searched for another try and they got it courtesy of flanker Jacob Lewis. Phillips then held his nerve to score the conversion and to nudge his side in front.

It was a great game and Llanelli will hope they can push on following this win.

Their next game sees them host Llandovery on Thursday, November 10, kick off at 7:30pm.
