Mum reaches personal best during half marathon for charity

A CARMARTHENSHIRE mum-of-two reached her personal best by completing the Cardiff Half Marathon in just over two hours. Amy Aulton, from Bancyfelin, laced up her trainers in aid of the Wales Air Ambulance and raised a fantastic £235. This was the first time that the keen runner had entered an ‘iconic event’, Amy said: “Running has always had a huge presence in my life. I’ve met the most amazing people along my journey who continue to support me, for which I am ever so grateful. I’m also privileged to be surrounded by such wonderful, picturesque views that made training even more enjoyable.”

Amy, who works for Hywel Dda Health Board, wanted to take on the challenge after knowing someone whose life was saved by the Wales Air Ambulance medics. She was supported on the day by her partner Clint and two children Ella and Sonny, she said: “The Cardiff Half Marathon went really well, much better than I anticipated. I achieved my best time of completing it in two hours and three minutes. Thank you to everyone who supported me with my training, on the day or donated to my fundraiser.” Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury.   It is delivered via a unique Third Sector and Public Sector partnership. The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the charity’s vehicles.
As a pan-Wales service, the dedicated crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency lifesaving care.  Reflecting on the importance of the 24/7 service, Amy said: “We are fortunate to have such a
sophisticated service that should never be taken for granted. It is essential to support the growth of advanced lifesaving equipment, not forgetting the medical professionals who dedicate their skills. “It would be unimaginable to think of life without the Wales Air Ambulance. The versatility in reaching those in need, especially areas that are inaccessible by road. I can’t emphasise the importance of continuing to support such a worthy cause.” The Wales Air Ambulance needs to raise £11.2 million every year to keep its helicopters in the air and its rapid response vehicles on the road. Christian Sullivan, Regional Fundraising Manager for the Wales Air Ambulance said: “A huge thank
you to Amy for taking part in the Cardiff Half Marathon. Amy smashed her fundraising target and achieved her personal best. Thanks to everyone who has helped Amy with her fundraising.

“We wouldn’t be able to keep our helicopters flying and rapid response vehicles on the road if it wasn’t for the fundraising donations we receive from people like Amy, who help us raise vital funds to help fund our operations. Amy’s commitment of running the Cardiff Half Marathon in aid of our Charity is really appreciated.”
