Old Gold ease to win over rivals Llanelli

CARMARTHEN TOWN moved above Llanelli Town in the JD Cymru South League table to on Friday night as they earned a 3-0 win at Stebonheath Park.

Carmarthen’s wing back Jordan Vickers provided the platform for the win as early as the fourth minute when he sped down the wing and provided a pin point cross for his team mate Liam Thomas to rise and meet the ball and glide it into the Llanelli net.

The Old Gold were winning the individual battle’s with Old Gold captain Greg Walters giving a dominant performance in the midfield.

The Reds came close to an equaliser when they hit the woodwork twice within a matter of seconds.

However that was as good as it got for the home side. At half time the visitors held the advantage and Llanelli needed to up their performance in the second half.

Llanelli started the second half with more intensity but their cause wasn’t helped when substitute Tim Parker was adjudged to have made a reckless challenge on Greg Walters and the referee brandished the red card without hesitation in the 68th minute.

Carmarthen took full advantage minutes later of their extra man when centre back Lee Surman scored his team’s second goal to virtually put the game out of reach for the home team.

The icing on the cake for the visitors was when striker Liam Thomas scored his second goal in the 81st minute to cement their deserved victory.

There was a milestone moment for Thomas in the game as he scored his 150th goal in all competitions for the Old Gold.

Both sides are in action in the JD Welsh Cup next weekend. Llanelli make the trip to The Rock to face Cefn Druids while Carmarthen travel to Cwmbran Celtic.
