Pentre Awel rolls out it’s latest exciting project, Our Classroom Climate

THE INNOVATIVE, which launched on 7 November 2024, is working with 6 Llanelli primary schools to deliver a tailor made immersive educational program centred around the climate change strategy and sustainability.

The schools involved this year are as follows:

  • Ysgol Maes Y Morfa
  • Ysgol Pen Rhos
  • Ysgol Hen Heol
  • Ysgol Ffwrnes
  • Ysgol Dewi Sant
  • Ysgol Y Felin

Mark Douglass, founder of Our Classroom Climate commented: “Having seen the amazing project going on at Pentre Awel, we are delighted to be partnering with the development.

“By providing an education into sustainability and climate change to local primary schools, we can create a community that has access to digitally interactive educational resources on climate change which measures climate change in real time.

“The pilot in Llanelli was the first in Wales and received an Earthshot award, it was amazing to see the children sharing what they have learned with their parents, their teachers and other schools in Llanelli.

“I look forward to supporting the team at Pentre Awel in creating a destination venue that will be supporting and inspiring all generations and community groups across the County.

Pentre Awel is the first development of its scope and size in Wales providing medical research, health care delivery, and supporting and encouraging people to lead active and healthy lives.

Sustainability has been integrated into the design and operation of Canolfan Pentre Awel, through measures such as air source heat pumps and EV charging, ensuring the development not only addresses the important impacts of climate change but also paves the way for long-term economic growth and resilience.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Climate Change, decarbonisation and sustainability, Cllr Aled Vaughan Owen added: “I would like to thank all the schools for their involvement as they embark on their journey with the Our Classroom Climate project.

“It is important to ensure we are providing young people in Carmarthenshire with the right educational tools to understand important topics such as climate change.

“I look forward to seeing how much the pupils learn and how they can use their newfound environmental expertise to help the world around us.”
