Chandler’s hat trick sends Neyland through in West Wales Cup

NEYLAND booked their place in the second round of the West Wales Cup on Saturday (Oct 8) as they beat Port Tennant Colts 4-1.

The home side took the lead after 18 minutes after some sustained pressure. Another shot from Josh Watts was kept out but the ball fell to Mike Chandler who slotted home from the left side of the penalty spot.

Neyland held on to their 1-0 until the break but they knew they would face a fightback from the Swansea League Division 1 side.

There were chances for both sides early on in the second half as Jack Martinelli saw a shot saved while at the other end, Mike Chandler shot over.

With just over an gone, Port Tennant were awarded a free kick wide on the right. Luke Evans floated the ball to the back post and Adam Hook was in the right place to fire the ball home.

There was then a flashpoint in the game as a Colts supporter ran onto the pitch following a push from Tyler Sutton who was then booked. The supporter was then escorted from the pitch.

After it calmed down, it was Neyland who regained the lead when Chandler turned well and shot into the bottom right corner.

In the 90th minute an excellent pass by Jack John sent Mike Chandler through on goal and he slotted in to complete his hat trick and to seal the win for Neyland.

In injury time, Simon Ellis chipped the ball through for Max Bowman-Davies who was too quick for the Colts defence and he scored to make it 4-1.

Neyland can now look forward to their game in the second round.
