Fire in Swansea city centre prompts major response

A FIRE in a multi-storey building on New Cut Road, Swansea city centre, prompted a major emergency response on Monday (Nov 18).

The blaze, which broke out shortly after 4:00pm, saw at least 11 fire crews deployed, with the public advised to avoid the area.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service released a statement confirming the details of the operation: “At 4:08pm on Monday, November 18, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews from Swansea Central, Port Talbot, Neath, Pontardawe, Llanelli, Morriston, and Carmarthen fire stations were called to an incident on New Cut Road in Swansea city centre.

“Crews responded to a fire on the third floor of a multi-storey property. Crews utilised four breathing apparatus sets, one main jet, and one thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire.

“All persons were accounted for. Crews were involved in ventilating the property after the fire was extinguished and conducted searches of other floors. Crews began leaving the scene at 5:15pm.”

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
