Hard hitting film is a winner

Tomos Bowie

AS PART of the Road Safety Wales Social Media Campaign Competition, Pembrokeshire College’s Creative Media Production students were given a brief to create a short film to be shared on the Road Safety Wales partner social media channels to raise awareness about the Fatal 5.

Schools, colleges and youth organisations from across Wales were invited to devise, perform and record a short film warning of the dangers and consequences of drink/drug driving, speed, careless driving, not wearing a seatbelt and using a mobile phone whilst driving.

Following a tough judging process, Tomos Bowie, a Level 3 Creative Media Production student at the College was announced as the overall winner receiving a £250 prize.

Kirstie Donoghue from the Road safety Team commented: “We were delighted with the quality of all the entries from students at Pembrokeshire College for this year’s Road Safety Wales – fatal five competition. Tomos’ entry was highly effective in depicting several of these key safety messages, his film will help to make road users more aware of the main causes of road traffic collisions in Wales.”

Following the announcement that his film had been selected as the winning entry Tomos commented: “I am very happy to have been able to work on such an exciting project. I had some amazing actors to work with who gave the film so much impact. I’m delighted with the result!”

This is not the first time that Creative Media Production students have received accolades for their work; students have won this competition several times since 2012 with former student Naomi Charnley being last year’s winner.

Course tutor Denys Bassett-Jones commented: “I am absolutely over the moon with Tomos’ success in this competition. As a course we are always looking for opportunities to provide learners with live brief experiences and I am pleased that we can support such an important safety campaign!”
