HAVERFORDWEST High VC School (HHVCS) has shown extraordinary dedication this year, organising a remarkable week of fundraising events to support BBC Children in Need, a charity that provides grants and support to disadvantaged children and young people across the UK. The charity’s iconic mascot, Pudsey Bear, has become a symbol of hope and generosity, inspiring millions to contribute to this vital cause. This year, the school community came together with an ambitious goal of raising the largest amount in the school’s history, and their efforts have been nothing short of incredible.
Thanks to the creativity, teamwork, and determination of pupils, staff, parents, and carers, HHVCS has raised nearly £13,000. Sixth Form alone raised a staggering £9,372, showcasing their commitment to helping make a difference in the lives of children and families in need.
Throughout the week, HHVCS became a hive of activity, with events designed to engage everyone in the school community while raising funds. Monday (11 Nov), activities began with a Year 7 danceathon, accompanied by a bake sale offering delicious treats. The Sixth Form also hosted a thrilling netball versus rugby match and braved the icy waters of Broad Haven for “The Big Dip”.
Tuesday (12 Nov) saw the entire school come together for a Pudsey Fun Run, which was filled with enthusiasm. Meanwhile, Sixth Form students organised a sponsored silence, with Molly and Libby remaining quiet to raise funds, while Ffion and Katie completed an impressive half marathon. Other daring activities included a cycleathon and a leg waxing session, with participants embracing the spirit of the cause with humour and courage.
Wednesday (13 Nov) brought a sense of competition as students and staff gathered at Haverfordwest RFC for a whole-school pub quiz. The Sixth Form took part in the Bushtucker Trials, a challenge where students and teachers competed to eat unconventional dishes such as blended tuna milkshakes and fish heads. The teachers emerged victorious with a score of six to three.
On Thursday (14 Nov), the excitement continued with Year 10 and Year 11 going head-to-head in both a football match and a bingo showdown. The Sixth Form took charge of a car wash, raising additional funds for the charity.
The week finished on Friday (15 Nov) with an array of activities, including an auction led by Year 8, a quiz from Year 9, and the fancy dress competition. Each year posed for a commemorative photo. The day ended with a football match between Year 12 and Year 13 Sixth Form students.
A special addition to the Sixth Form block this year was Bertie the Bear, kindly donated by Helen and Paula. Pupils were invited to purchase a £1 raffle for a chance to win Bertie.
HHVCS has documented the week’s events across its social media platforms, with photos and updates. For more highlights, follow the school on Facebook, Instagram, or on the Sixth Form’s Instagram page.
