Laugharne hold off Neyland

LAUGHARNE held off a late fightback from Neyland to win their League 3 West A game by 23 points to 22 on Saturday (Dec 10).

The win for Laugharne is their fifth of the season and keeps them in fourth place in the table while Neyland pick up a losing bonus point for their efforts but slip to sixth.

Neyland went ahead with an early penalty from Ollie Rothero but Laugharne hit back with a try from Cian Williams which was converted by James Stephenson.

The Pembrokeshire All-Blacks were then awarded a penalty try following a series of Laugharne trangressions and Neyland were back in the lead with the score at 7-10.

Shortly before half time Laugharne regained the lead once more with an unconverted try from Stephen John. That gave Laugharne a 12-10 lead at half time.

Laugharne knew they would see a response from Neyland in the second half and they started well with a second try from Cian Williams. The conversion was missed.

Stephenson then extended their lead further with two more penalties, taking the score to 23-10.

Neyland hit back though and had a try from Luke Dawes which was converted by Rothero.

With five minutes to go Dawes crossed again to bring the score to 23-22. Rothero had the chance to win it for his side but couldn’t land the conversion from a difficult position.

It meant they would have to settle for a losing bonus point while Laugharne returned to winning ways following defeat the previous week.

On Saturday, December 17, Neyland host Aberaeron while Laugharne travel to Pembroke Dock Quins.
