LLANELLI man Kyle Jones has been found guilty of sexual assault following an incident in the early hours of Sunday (Oct 3), 2022, at Coyote Ugly on Wind Street, Swansea.
The court heard that Jones, who has no previous convictions and is of good character, denied the allegations, claiming he did not touch the complainant. However, the complainant told the jury that Jones touched her without consent during the incident.
The prosecution, led by Ms Randall, stated that the complainant’s account was consistent and credible. Ms Randall argued: “The defendant’s behaviour was inappropriate, unwarranted, and a clear violation of personal boundaries.”
The defence, represented by Ms George, maintained that Jones had been wrongly accused, highlighting his previously unblemished record and good standing in the community. Ms George told the jury: “Mr Jones has consistently denied these allegations. He is a man of good character, and it is important to remember that good character is not something that can be fabricated.”
The defence further argued that there were inconsistencies in the complainant’s recollection of events, but the prosecution dismissed these as minor discrepancies.
After deliberation, the jury returned a guilty verdict. Jones, appearing visibly shaken, was remanded for sentencing at a later date. The judge warned that the offence is serious and could carry a custodial sentence.
The verdict follows a lengthy trial, during which both the complainant and witnesses gave evidence. The incident at the popular Wind Street bar has prompted concerns about personal safety in nightlife venues.
Sentencing is expected to take place in the coming weeks.
