Over 500 people attend Christmas around the World event in Llanelli!

THE FREE festive food event run by west Wales Charity Foothold Cymru, in partnership with the Llanelli Multicultural Network, brought together diverse communities from Llanelli and Carmarthenshire to share their Christmas food and traditions.

With over 500 attendees and foodie representation from over 13 countries including Wales, Poland, Ukraine, Syria, Nepal, Indonesia, Korea, Japan, Catalonia (Spain), Chile, Portugal Italy and Romania, the event was a huge success.

Guests had the opportunity to sample delicious home cooked food from around the globe, as well as old Welsh favourites such as Welsh Cakes and mince pies!

There was a range of activities for children, including Christmas letter writing, card printing, elf hats and lots more. There was also music and dancing from around the world and a visit to Santa’s Grotto with a free gift from Santa for the children!

The event was made possible by funding from the Welsh Government Community Cohesion fund, but supported with sponsorship from the Llanelli Rotary, DPA Law and Fusion.

Annie Evans Chair of the Llanelli Multicultural Network said: ‘it was amazing to see our diverse communities coming together to share their Christmas traditions. A huge thank-you to everybody who came and made it a special celebration.’’

Mike Theodoulou, Chief Executive of Foothold Cymru said ‘’the importance of sharing and learning from one another is so important. We’re lucky to live in a culturally diverse community and events like these allow us to come together to celebrate all cultures that make up our community.’’
