A 45-year-old man from Tycroes, Ammanford, has been committed to Swansea Crown Court for sentencing after admitting to carrying a knife in a public place without lawful reason.
Christopher James, of Derwen Newydd, Ammanford Road, appeared before Llanelli Magistrates’ Court today, where he indicated a guilty plea to the charge of possessing a knife blade or sharp pointed article in a public place, contrary to the Criminal Justice Act 1988.
The incident occurred on 23 June 2023, when Mr James was found in possession of a knife on Stepney Street in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire. During today’s hearing, the prosecution, led by Sian Vaughan, outlined the details of the offence, stating that Mr James had no good reason or lawful authority to carry the weapon in the public space.
The case was presided over by a panel of three magistrates: Mr E. Brodrick, Mr J. Boreham, and Mrs A. Harries. The bench, acknowledging the seriousness of the offence, committed Mr James to Swansea Crown Court for sentencing. He has been granted unconditional bail until his next appearance.
The sentencing hearing is scheduled to take place on 17 September 2024 at Swansea Crown Court, located at The Law Courts, St. Helens Road, Swansea. The hearing is expected to last approximately 30 minutes.
