A Haverfordwest motorist who made the misjudged decision to drive her pregnant friend to hospital after her waters broke despite consuming cannabis just hours earlier, this week found herself standing before magistrates to be sentenced for drug-driving.
Admitting the charge before Haverfordwest court was Lilian Evans, 29, of Keeston Hall Bungalows, Haverfordwest.
The court was told that Evans, a former family liaison officer, was stopped by police as she drove her Vauxhall Astra along Narberth Road, Scotchwell, at around 3am on December 20.
A drugs wipe proved positive and subsequent blood tests revealed that she had been driving with 10mcg of Delta-9 in her blood. The legal limit is 2.
But her solicitor, Mr David Williams, said his client had had no intention of driving that night.
“She had received a call from a friend who was pregnant and whose waters had broke, and who urgently needed to go to hospital,” he said.
“My client took her to the hospital and left her there to give birth. But unfortunately she had used cannabis some time previously.”
After considering the evidence, magistrates disqualified Evans from driving for 12 months.
She was also fined £184 and ordered to pay £95 costs and a £74 surcharge.
