Bluebirds beat Flint to set new club record

HAVERFORDWEST County set a new club record on Saturday (Apr 1) as they moved on to 40 points with their win over Flint, their most in 12-team Cymru Premier season.

It has been an excellent first season for Tony Pennock who has guided the Bluebirds to top spot in the Play-off conference with just three games left to play this season.

They started well on Saturday, with Corey Shepherd shooting low into the bottom corner to give the visitors the lead after only five minutes.

Flint then had a couple of chances but saw efforts go wide as County keeper Zac Jones was relatively untroubled.

With 26 minutes gone the Bluebirds doubled their lead as Jordan Davies controlled the ball well before curling an excellent shot into the top corner for his eleventh goal of the season.

Flint’s Clarke then broke through but Jones did well to deny the home striker.

The Bluebirds held on to their two-goal lead until the break but they knew they would face a challenge in the second half with Flint looking to get back into the game.

With an hour gone, Shepherd picked out Dan Hawkins at the back post but his effort was saved by Flint keeper Allen.

With seven minutes to go, Flint’s hopes of getting back into the game were all but over as Harry Owen recieved his second yellow card, only five minutes after getting his first, and was sent off.

Jordan Davies then saw a shot squeeze under the body of the Flint keeper but the defender got back well to clear the ball off the line.

The Bluebirds saw the game out and the win sees them move four points clear of Caernarfon Town.

On Good Friday, April 7, Haverfordwest County host Pontypridd at the Ogi Bridge Meadow, kick off 2:30pm.
