Carew go top after beating Saundersfoot

CAREW moved to the top of Division 1 after beating Saundersfoot by 89 runs on Saturday (May 20).

Carew won the toss and chose to bat first and they made 227 before being bowled out.

Nick Davies fell just four runs short of a century for his side while James Hinchliffe added 47 and Shaun Whitfield scored 32.

Tudor Hurle was the pick of the bowlers for Saundersfoot as he finished with figures of 5-39. Jack Franklin also bowled well for figures of 2-42.

In reply, Franklin added to his wickets with a good knock of 43 but it wasn’t enough to help his side to victory.

Hurle scored 20 and there were also scores of 19 from Danny Brace and 18 from Paul Mansbridge but Saundersfoot fell short of their target at 138-all out.

Whitfield finished with excellent figures of 3-19 while Iori Hicks (2-29) and Rhys Davies (2-18) also picked up two wickets each.

The win moves Carew to the top of the table, level on 65 points with Neyland, while champions Cresselly sit three points further back.

On Saturday, May 27, Carew host St Ishmaels while Saundersfoot visit Lawrenny.
