Crymych earn promotion to Championship

CRYMYCH Rugby Club have been promoted to the WRU Championship after their final game of the season was called off, giving them a bonus point win.

They had been due to play Llanelli Wanderers in their final game of the season on Saturday (May 13) but they were unable to field a side meaning Crymych gained an automatic 20-0 win.

Promotion caps an excellent season for Crymych who have won 19 of their 22 games, only losing twice.

They finish the season with 88 points, two behind Newcastle Emlyn while champions Llangennech still have one game to play.

Coach Elgan Vittle said: “What a fantastic achievement by all involved this season. The aim at the start of the season was to try and get a promotion. It’s been a pleasure to coach the boys this year, the commitment they have shown has been fantastic. We as a club know the challenge ahead but are excited and looking forward to it.”

Crymych will now look forward to the new season which will feature a local derby with Narberth in the newly created Championship West division.
